About city scapes.
Koek’s city scapes are fact and fiction using time and space as elements of a systematic framework to structure an experience creating one entity, embracing happenings in the past, the current and of future’s promise. Our eye is not a film camera and our brains use its motion detectors to create the visual illusion of motion when a series of images is displayed in quick succession. In Koek’s illusion you are invited to move your eyes, to be the film projector of a untruthful moment in time. Like in a 19th century panorama painting experiencing an event in motion. Creating the illusion of a fluid passage of a stretch of time. Seemingly without a beginning and ending. Like a Buddhist universe that goes through repeated cycles of creation, cycles of human breathing rhythmatically coinciding with the pace of a city’s heartbeat.
